Welcome to Huizemark Plettenberg Bay
It is hardly surprising that this quaint seaside town, nestled in the sparkling, blue bay of Plettenberg Bay is known as "The Jewel Of the Garden Route."
Easily accessible from Port Elizabeth and Cape Town or via air from Johannesburg, it lies in a sheltered bay situated on the South Western coastline. It has a temperate climate, beautiful, golden beaches, and spectacular views making it an idyllic and tranquil holiday destination throughout the year.
The beaches of Plettenberg Bay or "Plett" as known among the locals make for safe bathing, excellent surfing and great sailing. While taking a relaxed walk along the waters edge one can also watch the dolphins surfing the waves or the whales wallowing close to shore. .
This friendly town with its village atmosphere offers a wide variety of interesting, charming shops, first-rate restaurants and tempting coffee shops. Not to mention many excellent B&B's, Lodges and Hotels.
And for those who enjoy the outdoors there are numerous walking, cycling and nature trails, one in particular being the Robberg Peninsular Nature Reserve, as well as the renowned dolphin and whale watching cruises departing from Central Beach. Within a close distance to the town, there is the highest commercial bungee jump in the world, which is situated right next to the black water rafting and underwater trails of the Storms River mouth. En route to these activities one can also visit Monkeyland, the first primate sanctuary in South Africa.
The Keurbooms River of Plettenberg Bay provides a water way into the most beautiful indigenous bush. Hire a boat and let the current gently slip by while you watch the wonderful birdlife and enjoy the peace and tranquility of this river
Closer to Knysna and about a 10 minute drive (heading towards Cape Town) on the N2 is the magnificent Harkerville Indigenous forest with enormous centuries old trees, en route one can visit the Knysna Elephant Park and feed the elephants. The forest is the habitat of countless birds and animals and there exist a few elusive “free elephants”, the only ones not in a park in South Africa.The forest is accessible by car but cycling is an enjoyable and safe alternative.
